Healthy Mummy, Healthy Family Symposium - Hearty Events - Singapore Heart Foundation

To commemorate Mother's Day, Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) will be holding the Healthy Mummy, Healthy Family Symposium 2018 on Saturday, 12th May. The symposium is also held in celebration of the annual Go Red for Women (GRFW) campaign, which aims to empower women with the knowledge and tools that can help reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease.

A GRFW survey conducted in 2016, revealed that only 10% of respondents were aware that cardiovascular disease was 1 of the 2 leading causes of death for Singaporean women. Therefore, this symposium seeks to educate women on their heart health and inspire them to motivate their loved ones to lead a healthy lifestyle too. Don't miss a chance to catch celebrity mum, Florence Tan 陈秀丽, who will be sharing tips on how to cultivate healthy living habits in the family.

Highlights at the symposium include:

 Launch of the Virtual Supermarket Tour
Participants will learn how to read food labels carefully through an interactive 360 degree virtual tour around a supermarket via their phone or on a website. Through this game, SHF hopes participants will be able to choose healthier food products and make a conscious decision to do so each time they step into the supermarket.

 Salt Taste Test: Are You Salty?
In conjunction with World Hypertension Day on 17th May 2018, this mass salt taste test aims to encourage reduction in salt intake by creating awareness on salt taste threshold and the impact of excessive salt intake. Join us in this intriguing experiment and find out if you are salty!

 Mental Health Workshop: Secrets of Stress Management
Stress may affect behaviors and can increase cardiovascular disease risk factors such as poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking or excessive alcohol consumption. Learn the techniques and tips from experts on how to manage your stress levels effectively.

 Celebrity Chef Cooking Demonstration by Chef Daniel Koh
Chef Daniel Koh will be sharing useful tips and recipes on how to
prepare a healthy meal easily. Around 6 out of 10 Singaporeans dine
out at least four times a week (according to the National Nutrition
Survey in 2010). This has been cited as a reason why Singaporeans
are gaining pounds and becoming less healthy. Therefore, this
session seeks to raise awareness that nutritious food can be both
delicious and convenient.

 Finale of the Hearty MasterChef Challenge 2018
Contestants who have previously successfully competed in a series
of qualifying rounds will battle against each other in the Mystery Box
Challenge. Join us to find out who will be crowned the Hearty
MasterChef this year!

Slots for the Qualifying Round are still available. Simply prepare a quick and convenient meal (that uses less oil, sugar and salt), snap
a photo of it and email it to nutrition@heart.org.sg together with your
recipe by 18th April 2018! All shortlisted participants will be entitled
to a pair of tickets to the symposium.
